Unfortunately, I found these reviews too late. My experience with Mr. Lowen matches what is written below. Mark Lowen is a very bad accountant. I would never, ever suggest anyone use him. Avoid at all cost. |

The first few years working with Mark were fine, but this year was different. I arrived on time for my appointment at his home. He was not there. He left no note. I waited outside. He arrived 15 minutes late with no appology to speak of except that he got caught in traffic. About 50 days after my check was to have been sent in, I recieved notice from the IRS that I had not paid my taxes. I called Mark. He said he would call the IRS and call me back, but he never did. I decided to write another check and pay the late fee to the IRA. It was a good thing I did. There is still no sign of the check. Mark made no attempt to help in this matter. He has since moved out of state. |

Mark Lowen doesn't even deserve 1 point, instead he deserves punishment. He reported false federal tax withholding amount on my return. When I received the letter from the IRS stating I owed taxes, I inquired Mark, who said he'd called them and resolved the issue. For 3 months, he kept assuring me I owed nothing. He was lying! The IRS moved the issue to their Collection Department and sent me a letter with an intent to levy my property. When I inquired Mark about this, he accused me of threatening and abusing him and if I didn't stop, he'd call the police. I ended up paying the taxes owed. Mark Lowen is a scam, a pathological liar, and mentally unstable. |

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! This guy has severe mental and emotional problems that unfortunately interfere with his ability to do quality work and interact with people in a professional way. I paid him in advance to do my taxes. He then proceeded to string me along for months, continuing to lie to me telling me that he filed my taxes when he had not. After checking into my status with the IRS, I finally hired a competent tax preparer who promptly did the work and filed my taxes just in time for the deadline. Mark refused to give me my money back saying that he had done "some of the work" which was completely worthless. He didn't file my taxes and I had to hire someone else. He has been successfully sued several times in the LA court system for failing to give money back to clients for work he never completed. I honestly can't believe this guy still has a business. Avoid at all costs!!! |

BEWARE!! Mark was my accountant for over 6 years. In that time, my business was required to pay countless fines to the state because of he had filed incorrect forms and/or checked the wrong boxes on others. I am now hiring a forensic accountant to dig me out of the mess Mark has gotten me into before the IRS audits me. STAY AWAY!! |

We hired Lowen to handle back taxes for an estate. He strung us along for more than a year, lying about his progress. He also told us he was an IRS enrolled agent; the IRS says he is not. He canceled literally dozens of appointments, always giving a dramatic excuse for his inability to meet with us--even sending us emails in which he pretended to be his wife. He finally confessed to having done none of the work. When we demanded our materials back, he sent numerous threatening and profane emails. He's crazy. He's a liar. Stay away from him. |

Mark did a great job with my '09 taxes, such a great job that he re-did my '08 taxes as it turned out I paid over $2,300 to the IRS. I'm putting together my '07 taxes now for him to ammend. Not sure about some of the bad reviews below but the good ones are dead on. He works out of his home office and he did cancel one of our appointments but he gave me plenty of heads up and as a self-employed individual myself I understand things come up. |

Absolutely the worst. Incompetent, inept, and a liar. Does not show up for appointments and comes up with meaningless endless excuses. On his Linkedin he writes, "almost went to USC" a total joke of a bookeeper. |

Stay away from Mark Lowen He is crazy and incompetent. He told us for years we didn't owe taxes and we did. Then he was abusive when we tried to solve the problem. Just stay away from him. He is bad news. |

I used him for almost 10 years, often doing returns for multiple states; he communicated well with me, kept my information organized, always filed extensions when we were close to deadline, and I always got refunds. I never had an organization, financial or communicative problem in working with him, and I recommend him to whomever asks me. |

Should definitely avoid. Turns in reports late, constantly reschedules meetings, has a temper, very disorganized. When we closed our account with him and asked for our files back, they came back to us as piles of paper in plastic bags, and we had to sort out everything. There was no system, and we spent a long time getting everything back in order. Horribly unprofessional. |

I left my last accountant who said I owed $8000. Mark re-worked my tax return and I ended up getting almost $8000 REFUNDED! The bad reviewer obviously had bad communication and expected Mark to make all his decisions for him after the fact. This is a good man and a wonderful accountant. |

AVOID at all costs. This is the worse accountant I have ever met. He should not call himself a "professional" or accountant whatsoever. He never met a deadline, never completed a project did not keep his word. |
